Potassium tert-butoxide is an organic alkaline corrosive product, which is highly hygroscopic. It should be sealed and stored. Generally, it should be stored in a cool, dry and ventilated warehouse. Potassium tert-butoxide is a commonly used alkoxide with the chemical formula (CH3)3COK. This colorless solid is a strong base commonly used in organic synthesis, and its conjugate acid, tert-butanol, has a pKa of about 17. In the solid state it exists as a tetrameric cluster of cucuranoid atoms. Potassium tert-butoxide is often referred to as t-BuOK in the chemical literature.
